Scouting’s values remain as vital today as ever, helping children and young people reach their full potential. By embracing the Australian Scout Promise & Law, we empower youth with essential life skills and a strong value system, fostering a better world and encouraging constructive societal roles.

Through fun, friendship, and adventure, we offer children and young people the chance to:

  • Make new friends
  • Try new things
  • Learn at their own pace
  • Challenge themselves
  • Discover adventure

Research shows that Scouts exhibit higher levels of resilience, a stronger sense of belonging, and greater emotional intelligence compared to their peers. This leads to personal maturity, confidence, and initiative, setting them up for a bright future.

Scouting is often associated with camping, pioneering, and bushcraft, which are indeed core elements of our traditional skills. However, Scouting offers so much more.

At Scouts SA, we question, listen, and open our minds. We start small and think big. We plan, act, review, and try again. We embrace new challenges, get muddy, give back, and always look forward to what’s next.

Today’s Scouts live and breathe adventure. They lead, assist, and participate in a wide variety of outdoor activities, from overnight hikes and bushwalks to extreme challenges like abseiling, rafting, canoeing, canyoning, snow activities, rock climbing, water skiing, mountain biking, caving, sailing, and even flying a plane!

Our Scouts also engage in performing arts, leadership development, community service, amateur radio operation, environmental projects, and interactions with different faiths and cultures. They participate in large-scale events such as Cuborees, Jamborees, international events, and service projects in developing countries.

No matter who you are or what your idea of adventure is, there’s an adventure waiting for you at Scouts SA. And we’ll help you find it.

Our dynamic, challenging, and adventurous program equips youth members with the tools to become strong, resilient adults and valuable members of their communities, both locally and globally.

Scouting fosters a sense of optimism and instills strong values, along with essential leadership and teamwork skills that are more important today than ever before. For children and young people, Scouting is about fun, adventure, new experiences, and making friends. This is the magic of Scouting – it helps young people flourish, grow in all facets of development, and become better individuals and citizens.

Here are some of the skills our youth members develop through their Scouting journey:

  • Leadership: Guiding a group to achieve common goals, fostering a can-do attitude and positivity.
  • Motivation and Discipline: Regular meetings, training, earning badges, and organizing events demonstrate conscientiousness.
  • Problem-solving: Creativity and resourcefulness in solving problems within diverse teams.
  • Communication Skills: Engaging with people from various backgrounds and ages, enhancing interpersonal abilities.
  • Teamwork: Knowing when to lead and encouraging everyone to participate and have fun.
  • Time Management: Managing energy levels, personal resilience, and prioritizing important tasks, especially after major events like Jamborees or Ventures.
  • Crisis Management: Learning first aid and responding quickly and sensibly in adversity through practical experiences.
  • Maturity: Testing abilities, expanding horizons, and reflecting on personal growth through adventurous activities.

Scouting offers a unique way to experience the world, beyond what most travelers typically enjoy. Scouts SA is part of a global movement that unites 47 million people across 172 countries. We provide numerous opportunities for young people to travel overseas, gain a broader perspective on Scouting and life, and connect with their international counterparts.

Each year, hundreds of Scouts participate in international Scouting events, which are truly unique experiences – think of them as our version of the Olympics! You’ll meet Scouts from around the world, engage in Scouting activities, and visit incredible places that others can only dream of.

If traveling isn’t an option right now, you can still have an international experience by finding a pen pal or hosting an international student. For those eager for adventure, there are several ways to get involved, including group friendship or service trips. You can also explore different cultures and backgrounds without leaving the Scout Hall.

Join Scouts SA and open the door to a world of adventure and global connections!
