Diversity and Inclusion
At Scouts SA, we strive to ensure everyone feels welcomed, respected, and included. It doesn’t matter your race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, ability, physical and mental health, physical attributes, religious or spiritual belief, national origin, or political beliefs. We’re committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive community where everyone can thrive.
“We cannot assume everyone is the same, which is why we must constantly think about how to adapt our approach to ensure everyone feels included.”
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) defines diversity as ‘recognising people as individuals, understanding that each of us is unique, and respecting our differences’. In Scouting, we are responsible for including everyone and celebrating diversity in all its forms. Together, we can continue to build a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone’s uniqueness is valued.
Ensuring Inclusion
The Scout program embraces adventure, fun, challenges, and inclusivity. We welcome everyone, always do our best, enjoy ourselves, embark on adventures, and embrace challenges.
Scouting celebrates our differences, recognising that adventure, fun, and challenges look different for everyone. By considering accessibility and making necessary adjustments, we ensure everyone can grow and develop through Scouting. Let’s create a space where everyone thrives and unforgettable memories are made!
A truly inclusive Unit is one that:
- Provides a space where a diverse range of people are able and want to join in
- Enables people to quickly feel comfortable and welcome to be themselves
- Enables people to participate and experience similar personal outcomes
- Can maintain the above.
