Creating Community Connections – Aurizon’s Community Giving Fund

Earlier this year, after 28 years of hard work, commitment and dedication, the Roxby Downs Scout Group finally opened the doors to its new Scout Hall.

The original Scout Hall was sadly lost to arson in 1998, and the journey to reach this moment has been long and difficult.

Some people may have given up hope. But not Scouts. It’s in our DNA to be resilient, push through adversity and ultimately come out the other side stronger.

But reaching this milestone required a lot of support.

This is where Aurizon came through for us.

Aurizon is Australia’s largest rail freight operator and has a strong connection to regional communities across the country. Through its Community Giving Fund, Aurizon provided financial support to help create a beautiful new entrance garden at the Roxby Downs Scout Hall.

The Community Giving Fund supports organisations working to deliver practical projects that benefit the communities in which Aurizon operates. For Roxby Downs Scout Group, that support helped create a more welcoming and functional space for youth members and the wider local community to enjoy.

One of the biggest champions of the Roxby Downs Scout Hall has been Beadell District Commissioner and Joey Scout Leader Cherie Gaskin. Cherie has worked tirelessly to help bring the project to completion and is incredibly thankful for Aurizon’s generosity.

“With the Aurizon Community Giving Grant, our Scout Hall and surrounding gardens are looking fantastic,” Cherie said.

“The completed garden beds, retaining walls, and clearly defined entry and exit points have transformed the front of the property, creating a welcoming, attractive and well-presented space for our members and the wider Roxby Downs community.”

Freight trains are a familiar sight across regional Australia, connecting communities, industries and people. Through its Community Giving Fund, Aurizon is helping create connections in another way by supporting projects like the Roxby Downs Scout Hall that make a positive difference within local communities.

Scouts SA and Roxby Downs Scout Group extend a heartfelt thank you to Aurizon for supporting such an important project that has meant so much to the local Scouting community.
