Joey Scouts Hop into Adventure at Hoporee
October 30, 2026On Friday, October 23, Joey Scouts from across South Australia made their way to Douglas Scrub Campsite, ready to Hop into Adventure at Hoporee 2026.

The weekend officially began with the Opening Ceremony, where Joey Scouts were greeted by a surprise appearance from Robert Irwin (not really), who brought along two “very real” kangaroos to help welcome everyone to Hoporee.
Following some singing, dancing and an introduction to the activities, Joey Scouts, Volunteers and Adult Helpers prepared for the weekend ahead.
Throughout the weekend, Joey Scouts had the opportunity to explore three different activity areas, each offering a range of experiences.

Activities included bushwalking and navigation, pioneering challenges where Joey Scouts could build their own creations to take home, and target sports, with options ranging from archery to hatchet throwing.
The paddling team also gave Joey Scouts the opportunity to learn about kayaking on land, while another activity introduced them to safe and controlled fire lighting, complete with marshmallow roasting.
There were also treasure hunts, races and other activities to keep everyone busy throughout the weekend.

Saturday began with blue skies and warm temperatures, but conditions changed as thunderstorms and heavy rain rolled through the campsite.
With the wet weather affecting plans, activities were adjusted throughout the day, with some moving undercover to allow Joey Scouts to continue their adventures.
Members of the Blewitt Springs Country Fire Service also visited Hoporee, providing water-based games and activities for the Joey Scouts to enjoy.

The rain continued overnight and into Sunday, bringing a wet conclusion to the weekend as Joey Scouts packed up and prepared for their journeys home.
Despite the challenging weather, Hoporee 2026 provided opportunities for Joey Scouts to try new activities, build their skills and spend time with fellow Joey Scouts from across South Australia.
Thank you to the volunteers, Adult Helpers and activity teams who contributed their time and efforts to delivering Hoporee 2026.
