Roxby Downs Scout Hall Grand Opening

August 17, 2026

In 1998, the Roxby Downs Scout Hall was lost to arson. The group reformed in 2006 and, after 18 years of dedicated fundraising, that dream has become a reality. After 28 years, the Roxby Downs Scout Hall is now officially open!

On Saturday, August 15, Scouts, community leaders, CFS crew, and members of the public gathered at the new Roxby Downs Scout Hall for a day of celebration, fun, and appreciation for all the hard work that made this building a reality.

The fun started early, with activities like target sports, a kid-friendly hatchet throwing area, a huge rock climbing wall provided by Rock About, a scavenger hunt, and even a ball pit for the youngest guests. With delicious food and desserts, it was the perfect family-friendly way to build excitement for the grand opening.

After the morning festivities, everyone gathered for the grand opening ceremony, starting with the official ribbon cutting by Harry Long OAM, followed by the unveiling of a plaque celebrating this milestone for the new hall.

Once opened, everyone gathered inside to admire the history of Scouting and the Roxby Downs Scout Group. The hall was decorated with shirts, memorabilia, and other items recognising all who supported this moment and the group’s rich history. Guests also enjoyed a delicious (and massive) cake to mark the celebration.

Formal proceedings continued with heartfelt thanks to everyone and each organisation that helped make the new hall possible. Chief Commissioner John Clarke spoke about this achievement, and Greg Warnes presented a 20-year service award and an Outstanding Service Award to Committee Secretary Michelle Casserly.

Beadell District Commissioner and Joey Scout Leader Cherie Gaskin received her Diploma of Leadership and Management, and her son Brock was presented with his King Scout Award with many of his Lone Scout members in attendance. Brock also recreated the Scouts logo using recycled wooden pallets left over from the hall build, showcasing his impressive craftsmanship.

The Roxby Downs Scout Group Grand Opening was a fantastic day, celebrating the resilience of Scouts. Despite adversity and challenges, everyone pulled together to make this new hall a reality. We look forward to all the future memories this new location will bring to its members.
