In response to community calls for alternative activities for local youth (besides sports), Scouts SA Branch is working with the Yankalilla and Districts Lions Club to re-establish the Yankalilla Scout Group which has been in recess for some 15 years.
On 26 February a ‘Come and Try’ day was held in the town with huge numbers of locals turning up for a sample of Scouting. Our expression of interest list is now nearing 100 young people, and we have been working hard behind the scenes to establish a volunteer Group Support Committee and Leader team. With a wonderful hall on beautiful surrounds at Lady Bay, the Group has a lovely home ready to move into.
We are aiming to open the doors to the Group in Term 3 with trained Leaders in support of the new volunteers. Just a little bit more work needs to be done around the Scout Hall, but we are confident and excited that the Yankalilla Scout Group will again provide a strong Scouting presence in a growing area of the state.
Facebook and Instagram are fantastic ways to promote Scouting. Please enjoy their use by posting photos and stories about the great activities you are doing in Scouts.
